The Disciplines:

Bench Press:

Female weight is 65 lbs, male weight is 155 lbs. Bar has to touch chest to make the repetition count. Excessive resting is not allowed (next repetition has to start within 3 sec).

Deadlift:

Female weight is 95 lbs, male weight is 235 lbs. Back has to be straight for repetition to count. Excessive resting is not allowed (next repetition has to start within 3 sec). Lifting belt and straps are allowed.

Basketball:

Time does not allow for full games (unfortunately), which is why we will have a shoot-out. Every individual will have 3 shots from the free throw line and 2 from anywhere behind the 3 point line. Free throws will score 1 point, “three pointers” will score 2 points. If people end up with equal scores within the top three, people with the same points will compete directly for the rank in a second shoot out.

Volleyball:

Standard indoor volleyball rules apply. We will play best out of 3 sets wins. The mini tournament will consist of 2 groups (3 teams per group).  After the round-robin the winners of the groups will play each other for first place and the second placed teams of each group will compete for third place. If teams end up with equal wins/loses the point differential will be used to determine the ranking in the round-robin.

Soccer:

Time does not allow for full games (unfortunately), which is why we will have a PK shoot-out. Each team will consist of 5 people (4 + goalie). The shoot-out will happen in tournament mode with two groups (see volleyball rules). Every team gets 5 shots at the goal. To add a strategic element, every player can make a maximum of 2 shots per round (so two people in the team do not have to shoot if they do not want to e.g. the goalie). Teams will shoot in alternating order. Flipping of a coin will decide who starts. Shots have to be performed in one fluent movement, no stops, no screwing around.

1 Mile Race:

Standard track race. Be aware that the Armory track is only 200 m per lap.

Broad-Jump:

We will do a standing broad jump into a sand pit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSunks_4wIE The closest spot to the starting line will be counted (do not fall backwards, and walk out of the pit to your front/ side).

60 m Dash:

Run fast! Shortest overall time wins. Volunteers from your lab can be recruited as human starting blocks if desired.

4 x 400 m Relay:

Falcon tubes will be used as baton. Falcon tubes can only be handed over in the transition zone. If you drop the tube, you are disqualified. Teams must include at least one female.

Push-Ups:

Every participant has 1 min to accomplish as many push-ups. When the time is up, only full repetitions will be counted. Push-ups means push-ups and not “sun-salutation-yoga” (keep the butt up and the back straight). To make sure that repetitions are properly performed, the hands need to touch behind the back when chest touches the floor. Furthermore, one hand has to touch the other arm when arms are fully extended.

High-Jump:

This event will be performed in form of a “jump & reach test”. Watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMQR6T2HVY0

Discus:

A 1 kg rubber discus will be used. All techniques (no additional equipment) are allowed, just don’t kill anyone. Attempt is invalid if you overstep the line. Everyone has 2 attempts.

Ultimate Frisbee:

Standard rules. Tournament mode (see volleyball). Each game is 2 x 10 min.

Faculty Event:

The name of the game is flip cup! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lhv-H2oYIr4 It will be played in tournament mode (like volleyball). Faculty will face each other in a 1 on1 including 5 cups per player. If players end up with equal wins/loses the total time for finishing both rounds will be used to determine the ranking in the round-robin.
