STEPS - Students Teaching, Exploring, and Presenting Science
STEPS is a non-profit group founded in 2014 by a student in the lab, Chelsea Anorma.
Our goal is to increase interest of traditionally underrepresented minority groups in science and engineering with the hope that they will be inspired to pursue a career in STEM. Through demonstrations, group experiments and individual projects, students are exposed to new scientific concepts at a level that is both challenging and intellectually stimulating. Each six-week installment will be focused on a central and important theme in science. Members of our lab guide students through the experiments and help them to understand the broader impacts of each topic. The first of these programs took place in 2015 and focused on concepts in molecular imaging.
Our upcoming series will highlight the critical roles bacteria play in our society. Registration will open soon.
